Please take a look at our other items, too. For your consideration today... 1955 Gretsch Duo Jet Click to Enlarge Case 1 Case 2 Case 3 Case 4 This auction is for a vintage 1955 Gretsch Duo Jet. It's a good player and sounds just like a Duo Jet should. Here's what I can tell you about the condition / originality: this particular Duo Jet was in professional use for many years, so it has numerous marks in the finish around the back and sides. The top is pretty clean. The pickguard is cut for Filter'Trons, so it's most likely a reproduction. The Bigsby was added sometime after the guitar left the factory. It also had a pinned Bigsby bridge when I received it, so there are 3 small holes that are now covered by the Melita bridge base. The electronics look to be undisturbed. Centralab pots date to June of 1954, one which is a little stiff. The top binding has lifted in a couple places: the cutaway and the bass side waist (see photos). There is an old, stable headstock repair. Gretsch began using heel dowels in the late 50s, so this one probably went back to the factory at some point--not an uncommon event with early Jets from my understanding. The truss rod nut is of the older square variety. The case is rough: lifted covering, split bottom, and a broken hinge. Plenty of pics above. Please email any questions. Some history: this Duo Jet was purchased about 10 years ago from a gentleman named Dan Edwards. He used it in his band The Sun Demons. Dan was also a sideman for Buddy Knox. In its travels with him, Dan said this guitar was played by quite a few gifted folks including: Paul Peek and Johnny Meeks of Gene Vincent and the Blue Caps, Brian Setzer, Albert Lee, and Buddy Knox. Here is a very fine example of a 1995 PAUL REED SMITH Custom 24. It has an absolutely stunning vintage yellow 10 TOP. It is in very good condition with some minimal signs of wear on the back that my camera wouldn't pick up. The serial number is #5 23941. Comes with original used case.
